My daughter Madison Rose has been working hard on her downswing move. She's been focusing on maintaining her spine angle during impact by keeping her hips back. Something that all great ball strikers do during the downswing through impact position (See Rory McIlroy beneath Madison's images).
In addition to maintaining the spine angle, keeping the hips back helps prevent early release of club, keeps the upper and lower body in sync, helps eliminate thin shots, and creates good ball compression.

YOUR TURN: If you're having trouble maintaining your spine angle during the golf swing... try this.
Drop me a line and let me know how it goes!- Stick an alignment rod into the ground behind you (See where line is drawn on the images above).
- Without a ball, practice the backswing and downswing through to impact very slowly and deliberately while keeping your butt cheeks against the rod. Concentrate on the feel.
- Remove the rod and hit balls (use a mid-iron) while imagining that your butt is up against an imaginary wall (or imaginary rod) during backswing/downswing to impact and beyond.
- Alternate between the drill and hitting shots until you can execute it repeatedly.
- Video yourself. Evaluate. Repeat!
